Multimedia Super Corridor Malaysia & Penang Cybercity
The Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia) is Malaysia's focus and initiative for the global information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
Since its implementation in 1996 and its subsequent roll-out to Penang in 2005, the MSC Malaysia is host to a thriving and vibrant ICT hub with home grown as well as foreign-owned companies and multinational, focused on multimedia and communication products, solutions, services and research & development.
Penang is the first state in Malaysia to be awarded the MSC Malaysia Cybercity status. Officially known as the Penang Cybercity (PCC) it provides a hi-tech growth platform for industries and businesses.
MSC Malaysia Cybercity @ Penang Cybercity.-phase 1 (PCC1) encompasses the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park and its vicinity. The second and third MSC Malaysia zones in Penang will be launched on the mainland Penang in Bertam and Batu Kawan after 2008.
The MSC Malaysia Cybercity @ Penang provides and ideal growth environment for ICT companies to locate and develop new technologies, products and services. With its excellent infrastructural facilities, the MSC Malaysia Cybercities @ Penang is most suited as a global test bed for ICT application and a hub for regional operations.
The MSC Malaysia Cybercity @ Penang through investPenang, aims to become a centre of excellence for knowledge and highly-skilled manpower by:
- Attracting and retaining the world’s leading MNCs and their knowledge workers.
- Acting as a catalyst for MNCs and Malaysian corporations to create value-added activities and move up the value chian.
- Nurturing start-ups, SMEs and “technopreneurs”.
- Collaborating with Universities, private institutions and skills development centers to educate and prepare knowledge workers.
For companies, MSC Malaysia status is granted by the Malaysian Government through the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) to those that participate in and undertake qualifying ICT activities within MSC Malaysia. MSC Malaysia status companies enjoy incentives and benefits from the Malaysian Governmental backed by the 10 Bill of Guarantees. MSC Malaysia status companies within the MSC Malaysia Cybercity @ Penang will also enjoy similar Bill of Guarantees as companies based in Cyberjaya and the Klang Valley.
The multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is the federal one-stop agency that manages and regulates MSC Malaysia. (www.mscmalaysia.my). At the state level, investPenang offers facilitation and coordination services to companies intending to apply for MSC Malaysia Status and setting up business in the Penang Cybercity.
