Komtar’s final phase

THE final phase of Komtar’s development plan is expected to be completed by 2013.
Work on the massive project which started more than 30 years ago will finally be completed once Phase Five is done, Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik said.
“This has probably been the longest running project in Malaysian history and I’m glad it’s finally coming to an end.
“We had some issues to settle with the squatters but I am optimistic we can move on now that the state has come up with a new ex gratia payment plan for them,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Ng said Phase Five, which was part of a massive 11ha development project, would comprise an urban park, adding that they were still open to suggestions but the tentative plan was to have a green lung.
On the new payment plan, Ng, who is also Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary, said it was a “lump sum goodwill payment” for those currently staying in 18 pre-war houses in the city.
