PENANG wants to tap into the lucrative jewellery market and list it as an attraction in the tourism map, said state executive councillor Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.

He said the state was planning to introduce a jewellery bazaar, among others, to cater for tourists arriving in the state through cruise liners.

“Penang has got the niche in the business, as the name itself — the Pearl of the Orient closely denotes the jewellery market in the state,” he said when opening a jewellery exhibition at the G Hotel in George Town on Saturday.
